Five resume mistakes that quietly get you filtered out

1. Task lists instead of results. "Responsible for managing a team" describes a job description, not your performance in it. Replace it with what changed because you were there.

2. A skills section nobody asked for. Listing "Microsoft Word" and "team player" wastes space a stronger bullet could use. Keep skills specific and relevant to the target role only.

3. Inconsistent formatting. Three different date formats or bullet styles across one page reads as carelessness before a single sentence is read — an ATS may also parse it incorrectly.

4. Burying the most relevant role. Chronological order is fine, but the most relevant experience for this specific application should never require scrolling to find.

5. No numbers anywhere. Even an honest estimate ("~15 clients," "roughly 20% faster") gives a reader something concrete to remember you by — vague achievements blur together.

None of these require starting over. Most resumes improve significantly just by fixing two or three of these on the existing draft.
